Access to media and technology

As libraries recreate themselves, they are challenged to perform an increasing role in digital service including: state-of-the-art computer training, internet and wireless internet access, learning and access technologies – serving everyone from toddlers to those with disabilities.
  • Piloted a wireless internet connection in the Georgetown branch which DCPL expanded to all branches in 2006
  • Purchased SMART Board and projector to create state-of-the art computer learning facility at MLK Central Library to complement Gates Foundation funded Computer Learning Labs.

The Foundation is currently raising funds for early literacy stations – brightly colored desktop computers with pre-literacy software for small children.
